I haven’t been here since April!?

So I think this has been my hardest marathon training cycle so far. YES. I know April was a long time ago and I haven’t updated at all. I committed to traveling and seeing some shit this year so the expense was quality training for Hartford and New York. Smashing my knee in June put me out of sprinting and stretching my right side IT band area for almost 2 months. Weird tendinitus from all the walking in London, Scotland, and New York also put me back two weeks. Anyway New York is still on and I’m feeling ready. Finally!

Six weeks. Three of peak and 3 of taper. Update soon!

How Do Ladies Do This Shit Without a Functional Bra?

It is very distracting to do yoga on the beach in an actual bathing suit. Minus the wave dilemma, the sports bra was a better experience. Thank god I was the only person on the whole beach. I’m not willing to say there were boobs in my experience or not, I’m just saying how can you be mindful of a pose when a nip is about to pop out?

Mid upward facing dog, trying to open that chest and get a little back bend, then it gets cut short because oh god there is a boob! Again, just using my imagination. Totally have no idea what that would be like. I mean barely even have boobs anyway.

Ladies are on Instagram in their teeeeeenie tiny little bras and thongs, and I had a full coverage bathing suit and was wildly uncomfortable.

This concludes my yoga on the beach series. Will I try it again? Sure. Probably. Maybe with a mat, maybe on another beach. Hey! Maybe I will hit Long Island Sound this summer and do some yoga and see what happens. Maybe more clothes. Hope you enjoyed me being stupid. I love yoga, and I love the beach.

Until then, you’ll be able to catch me at my yoga studios, and you’ll even catch me at the park this summer! And FYI, I’ll be fully dressed.

Other funny experiences coming soon anyway at Crossfit, and the beginning of marathon training. Namaste.

Waves are Rowdy, Sand is Hot, I Need a Mat.

I’m going to tell you right now that beach yoga and photography made me feel foolish. Just in case you haven’t caught that yet. My experience made me feel like I was unreasonable. I mean it was a nice quiet beach and I had nowhere else to be. I’ll admit the photography wasn’t necessary. At all. I have one great video where I’m flowing and huge wave came up and I had to chase it to get my phone before it drowned. With that, I leave you with this:

I Would Show You a “Fancy” Pose, but I’m Dying

I love looking at other people’s complicated and sophisticated yoga poses on the beach. Show me how bendy you really are. I think it’s so cool! Obviously the physical part of yoga is just a small piece of a bigger puzzle. Therefore, I can’t compare myself to others based on their physical practice. It’s not healthy. Sometimes we all do it anyway. I think. I DO have funny stories of me doing stupid shit that prohibits me from obtaining ultimate bendiness. Let me tell you about it.

Anyway. Here is my warrior 2 with eagle arms, and that’s because from jumping on the bed and sleeping funny and sitting on airplanes, my shoulders actually felt like they were going to pop. After a huge long $50 90 minute Mexican massage, I still had a knot the size of Montana next to my spine were I landed in bed-jumping a few days prior. I may never actually jump on a bed again.

I DO win extra yoga points in my head for attempting to cure this horrible problem by breathing into that knot and acknowledging that ignoring it will not help. Always pay attention when shit hurts. I learned that the hard way. Also knew attempting a pose I’m not ready would be silly.

Can you hold poses like warrior 2 with strength, love and integrity? That to me, is good yoga. Can you notice what makes you uncomfortable and accept it? That’s what’s up.

Beach Yoga: So Many Of My Favorite Poses Are Sitting On My Bottom

I feel like my last post was pretty insightful. Now let’s get a little silly, but still realistic.

A towel never would have withstood the wind, and I didn’t even mess with attempting to bring a mat on the plane.

One of the problems I encountered during my beach flow is I just really wanted to lay down and flop around. I will mention something about waves in another post- but the sand was WAY too hot.

Too hot for my feet, never mind if I was going to try sitting down for a forward fold or butterfly. All poses that I would have liked to do sitting down, had to be attempted standing up. This includes getting kinks out from sitting on airplanes to get to Mexico City and then to the beach.

The conclusion and point is, my practice usually includes me rolling on the floor in my sweats, so in this way beach yoga was not good for my low-key (maybe sometimes lazy…) yoga lifestyle.

Come practice with me Wednesday’s 6:30, Sunday’s at 12pm @ http://www.igniteyogact.com

Run to Explore: Mexico City

There are a lot of reasons to run. I’m not training for anything right now- all I have to do is run to see some shit. It’s glorious.

My first day running in Mexico… It was dark at 6-6:30. At the hotel the front door was guarded with a gate, a security guard, and two cops on the street. I had one foot out the door so I took off. The buildings are beautiful plus my favorite thing to do when I travel anywhere is run and watch the sunrise.

I have a list of things to do when I run in sketchy neighborhoods. This includes blowing snot rockets if someone gets too close, keeping my phone in my bra, huffing/puffing/looking more like I’m having a heart attack than I really am, or just running faster.

When I lived in Worcester and ran- I would do sprints past the crack heads who would try to say inappropriate things or grab me on Main Street. This was until I decided to re-route all my runs to NOT go I that area. Needless to say- none of that happened in Mexico City.

Ran a shorter amount the first day because I had no idea how much we will walk, plus I didn’t sleep so hot and my neck hurt. Saw a homeless guy’s dick while he was peeing in some flowers. Cute old ladies planting flowers, a bunch of people walking to work. Regular city. Lots of runners too.

High altitude and pollution made it a little weird and hard to run. New York marathon will be a breeze compared to this. Took pics at street corners because otherwise how do we differentiate running adventure pictures and tourist pictures? I’ll blog about these adventures later- topics include why I love running alone on vacation and top ways to stay safe running in the hood. Running in a cool place still makes me feel better that I didn’t qualify for Boston this year. Running around Mexico City in solitude is a win, too.

During my hot bus trip to and from the pyramids I sat next to a very nice woman from Panama. She was an English professor at a University and was doing some site seeing before a conference.

She told me about the angel of revolution sculpture downtown, along with a picture of the angel from her hotel room. “Here is my bed, here is my feet, the tv, and a view of the angel looking at me through the window! What a view!” She showed me the World Cup soccer balls, and her selfie with the ball from Panama. She had come to Mexico City alone and her family was a little nervous for her, too. Either way, she told me to go see the Reforma if I had a chance.

Considering my most recent run was a little sketch, as was my solo walk the night before, I decided to head for a different part of town.

I ran from my hotel around 6:15am. This time the gate wasn’t across my hotel door. Good sign. I opened maps, didn’t see anyone’s penis, same amount of police presence, and headed for downtown. I think in retrospect the shiny District would have been a little more comfortable for a hotel.

The buildings were SO shiny. How many times can I use the word “shiny” in this post? The soccer balls were beautiful too. It took me an extra mile of getting lost on wrong streets to get there, but three miles in I took a halftime to stop and look. Didn’t find USA. Feel a little stupid about that but I looked at each corner and Jess was waiting for me to get breakfast.

I loved running in Mexico City.
